Not all oil is the same.

Not all oil is the same.

Using cheaper oil can cost you more in fuel and oil usage in the long run.

Did you know?

  • Using cheaper oil can cost you more in fuel and oil usage in the long run.
  • High performance lubricants reduce energy usage and produce fuel savings

    through a combination of:

    • Lower viscosity fluids for lower viscous drag.
    • Low friction additives for boundary lubrication conditions.
  • Heavy duty engine oils:
    • Protect by controlling acids, deposits and wear to maximise your engine components life.
    • Continually adapt chemically and physically to protect your engines however and wherever you use them.
    • Reduce downtime due to unscheduled stops for top-ups and the potential damage to engines as a result of driving with low oil levels.
    • Can potentially maximise vehicle re-sale values.

Mercedes-Benz recommend Rimula R6LM oil. This oil was developed to provide ultimate protection for the latest Euro IV and V heavy duty engines fitted with diesel particulate filter traps and other exhaust treatment devices designed to extend their life.

The following chart shows the net annual savings in fuel and oil (after upgrade oil cost) based on a variety of mileages.

net annual savings in fuel and oil

Calculation based on:

Fuel consumption of 27 miles per gallon and fuel cost of £1.06 per litre. R6 LM 10W-40 at a £3.50 litre premium and Shell Rimula R6 LME 5W-30 at a £5.00 premium over Shell Rimula R3 X15w-40. Fuel consumption is obviously dependent on the driving style of the driver, loads carried by the vehicle, and the driving conditions, so changes in any of these can result in improvement or declines in fuel consumption.
