Survey of industry pay and conditions published

The ninth annual joint Road Haulage Association and IDS national survey of pay and conditions for drivers and distribution workers has just been published.

Key findings include:

  • The average hourly rate for LGV driver licence category C+E is £8.25 per hour, with gross average weekly earnings of £493.45
  • The average hourly rate for LGV driver licence category C is £7.95 per hour, with gross average weekly earnings of £433.62
  • The median settlement level for drivers was 3%.

Commenting, RHA's Director of Employment Affairs, Ruth Pott, said: "The start of the economic downturn and increasing fuel prices early in 2008 are reflected in these figures. It is of great concern that around a quarter of companies predict reductions in their workforce in 2009."

The survey also covers average hours worked, bonuses, commissions and overtime, workforce profile recruitment and retention issues, provision of driver training including expected provision of Driver CPC from later this year, sick pay and absence management procedures.
